References

For entry-level design engineers and the general public, we recommend them to review the entire document in order to become familiar with the concepts, procedures, key issues, and applicable alternatives available in the guideline.

For senior design engineers, they may refer to Chapter 2 for regulatory requirements on the rural wastewater treatment systems, and to Chapter 4 and 5 for particular system to design. Each system has various design elements to consider when installing, commissioning, and operating the system. It is critical that the designer recognizes the conservativeness of these guides and how they can be appropriately adjusted because of their impacts on the design and ultimately, performance of the system.

For policy makers and government officers, they may refer to Chapter 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 for rural wastewater project design, financing, implementation, and management.

For contractors and operators, they may refer to Chapter 4, which contains key operation and maintenance issues for each treatment unit.

This Practice Guideline is not a regulation, and readers remain free to use approaches other than those suggested here.
