Information
It is critical that villagers understand their role in the successful and sustainable O&M of the wastewater treatment systems. To protect the treatment systems, the village committee shall organize community meetings or through leaflets and posters to villagers to explain the following requirements:
- As each household is responsible for the O&M of the septic tanks for their own houses, the households shall be well informed of the necessity of periodic septic tank cleaning, septage cleaning frequency, the proper ways for septage disposal, the requirements of using a licensed pumping contractor, and the estimated costs for septic tank cleaning.
- If a clustered or centralized wastewater system is installed, the households shall be well informed of what they can and cannot dump into the sewers, the procedures for connecting the house to the village sewer system, the estimated costs for connecting to the sewer system, and restrictions to prevent storm water connections to the sanitary sewer system.
- If a septic system is applied, the households shall be well informed of the requirements for leaching field protection, such as maintaining vegetation, forbidden of trees or deep-rooted plants and irrigation trenches, etc.
