10.3.4 Sludge and Residual Management

Description:
Description:
Information

All wastewater treatment systems generate residual solids that require either on-site treatment or removal to an off-site sludge treatment facility. The O&M plan should provide basic information pertaining to the management of sludge; however, the private operator may need to review and update these procedures once the plant is operating. For any process in the treatment system that either generates or stores sludge, an expected removal frequency and means of removal shall be provided. Sludge management approaches refer to Section 5.5 Sludge Management.

The system operator will need to measure the depth of solids accumulating in different unit processes regularly, so that the solids can be removed before the level of solids impacts the performance of the treatment unit.
